Spring is almost here which means ducklings are on the way!
This year we are hoping to share our love and passion for raising ducks with the community by offering duckling pre-sales. Ducks can be a great egg-laying addition to any backyard garden or homestead. A common saying in the permaculture world is, “You don’t have a slug problem; you have a duck deficiency.” Ducks are excellent bug sleuths; we often see our girls in formation combing through the grass looking for slimy slug snacks. Our girls also love earwigs, grubs, caterpillars, and cutworms.
Many people wonder why they should get ducks. We have both and we are here to tell you that ducks are better—not sorry chickens!
Unlike chickens, which can’t help but scratch their way through the garden, our ducks and their flopping webbed feet mostly leave our garden undisturbed aside from the pest control. Ducks are also less susceptible to common backyard poultry ailments like mites and coccidiosis, making them generally healthier than chickens. Finally, ducks (or at least our ducks) are full of personality. We love watching our girls fumble their way around the yard, penguin slid in the snow, and playfully chase each other around the kiddie pool.

This year our ducklings will be a mix of straight-run Welsh Harlequin, Pekin, Indian Runner (black, blue, and blue and white), and Mallard breeds. Ducklings must go in groups of three or more and will begin hatching the first week of May.
